Definition
The register extract is the official document listing debt enforcement proceedings against you. It costs CHF 17 and shows proceedings from the last five years, including those already paid.
This is the document letting agencies and, increasingly, employers ask for. Reading it is brutal: an entry appears with its amount and status, without any context. A trivial consumer dispute and a genuinely unpaid debt look very much alike.
Anyone who can show a legitimate interest may request one about you, but in practice it is mostly applicants themselves who order their own extract to attach to a rental file.
The visibility period is what surprises people most: since the revision of art. 8a in force on 1 January 2026, a closed proceeding stays disclosed to third parties for five years, against one year before. Hence the value of obtaining a withdrawal or non-disclosure rather than waiting it out.
